A pair of twin beds (currently “bunked” but can be separated) that were used by my daughters long ago. There is also a futon, tho the mattress is not very comfortable, and an old but very comfortable twin air mattress.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf
Idk, when I lived in FL the insects were a real problem.
Constant battle against the mosquitoes. And one time I was attacked by red ants and had an anaphylactic reaction.
And don’t get me started on the “Palmetto bugs.” Aka giant expletive cockroaches.
Well, since she’s got you in the dog house I hope she at least found one of those nice looking “Sherpa Portable Soft-Sided Indoor Pet House” that they’ve been selling! You’ll be styling!!
@andyw They do. It’s nothing ritzy, but it’s comfortable. It’s part of the bottom half of our weird house, which used to be some kind of military barracks, then some crazy person had it moved up into the hills and remodeled it like woah.
For the discerning guest, I have a cozy space in the dirt floor portion of my basement. There is also the uninsulated bat-harboring walkup attic. At least that space has small dormer windows.
A queen size bed in a spare bedroom outfitted with desk, tv, Keurig, with a bathroom adjacent. Because my guests seem to bring pets, I also have a large pet bed in the room. However honored guests and those who find stairs difficult get the master bedroom and en suite bathroom downstairs and I take the guest room
We have a double bed in the guest room with a bathroom next to it that we don’t use when guests are here. We have a folding cot and an air mattress or two. Mostly all this is used by our son, his wife and their three kids when they visit about twice a year.
In declining order of comfort (and therefore frequency) of use:
15x15 two story pool house with 2 queens upstairs and an IKEA convertible sofa downstairs. Full (but small) bathroom and efficiency kitchen downstairs as well.
Double/full 4-poster in guest room
Murphy bed in my office
Assorted full and twin air mattresses stored in closet in wife’s office space/our tv room.
And in a pinch, we could also use the queen size bed and pull out sofa in the RV, sleeping bags and roll up mattresses in some tents, or (if the weather is nice) some Eno style hammocks around the property.
Did I mention we love having company?
Depends on how many people are at my house. I have a queen bed in my guest room. If there are more people than that (rare) I borrow an air mattress from a friend to put in my “exercise” room.
I keep a guest bedroom ready with Queen bed, side tables, large dresser and dressing chair. with en-suite bathroom. When guest stay with us, they are right at home.
All of the above. We have quite a few people that stay over and use all of the space. Okay, not all of the space, there were enough air mattresses this year that no one had to sleep on the couch.
My parents covered the difference between building a 3-bedroom (in budget) and a 4-bedroom (not in budget) specifically so they could have a guest room. Ironically, they almost always bring their RV, so the guest room doesn’t get a lot of use, but it’s there.
Spare bedroom with a double bed and full bathroom right next to it but rarely have anybody use it. Most family lives around the area and when people come from out of town they have their own family to stay with.
The couch is mine. So is anywhere else that I want to sleep. I may permit invaders to have a spot on the floor out of my sight if I am feeling generous, unless I like them, in which case I will sleep on them.
Two guest rooms with a shared bathroom. One has a queen size bed, the other decorated in pink/purple with princess decor and a Cinderella carriage bed (its set up for my niece)
Guests can choose which room they want, and if they choose the princess bed I don’t judge!
@Kyeh@therealjrn my niece was basically non verbal when I moved in (high functioning autistic), but she was so excited when she saw the room she just stood there and cried. It was humblimg.
Now at 14 she wont stop talking , but she wont let me change her room! She likes it that way
@therealjrn@tinamarie1974 Wowwww!!!
What a lucky little girl (no longer so little, I guess - but still lucky!) That’s fabulous.
My mother actually got me a pale purple canopy bed when I was in 5th grade; I think she secretly liked it. I was the envy of my friends.
@Kyeh@therealjrn@tinamarie1974 When my (soon-to-be-ex-first) wife moved out, she got primary custody of our daughter, so she took her (basic) twin bed. Fair enough.
I needed a bed for her for visitation - so I bought a fancy canopy bed. My daughter loved it. (And my ex-wife hated it. Mission accomplished. )
A bed in the spare room, a couple of
Comfy couches, and air matress, and several sleeping mats. Depending on the weather and the level of intoxication, we can sleep about 16 guests.
Amazed at how many people suggested nearby hotel. It’s walking distance at end of driveway. But so far have discouraged any “ guests” except for my sister-in-law but that did not end well (time of stress with death of my mother plus had had issues with her husband before)
For those on “most favored relative/friend” status we can book you for a week at an oceanfront condo on Oregon coast.
A hotel across the street
Directions to the closest Motel 6. They will leave the light on.
A bed inside the guest bedroom.
@cengland0 How is this not an option?
@cengland0 @hchavers right?
@cengland0 Yep, we actually have two guest rooms (and a bathroom) available now that the kids are grown and gone.
@macromeh I converted one of my guest bedrooms into a home office. One of those life decisions. I only have one guest bedroom available now.
@cengland0 Hmm, I have a home office that we have used as a guest bedroom…
This time of year the only logical choice is a bit of straw in the stable
@clyde yep
A pair of twin beds (currently “bunked” but can be separated) that were used by my daughters long ago. There is also a futon, tho the mattress is not very comfortable, and an old but very comfortable twin air mattress.
I may get one of these to replace the futon
Airwolf!
@PooltoyWolf Excellent!!

@PooltoyWolf That does look comfy!
@Kyeh Oh man, he feels like lounging on a cloud.
@PooltoyWolf but do they have to sleep outside?
@kittykat9180 @PooltoyWolf It’s Florida, so it’s probably fine?
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf

@kittykat9180 He fits in the living room!
@kittykat9180 @Kyeh @PooltoyWolf

Explosive cockroaches???
@kittykat9180 @Kyeh @therealjrn Now THAT would be terrifying…
@kittykat9180 @PooltoyWolf

Ohhhhh …
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf @therealjrn
Explosive cockroaches would be even worse.
I had a guest bedroom, but it’s a Meh deals storage room now. I have my priorities.
@hchavers And that is exactly where my wife found my Meh stash cleaning out the closet for a guest. I am still suffering from that one.
@hchavers @rustyh3
Well, since she’s got you in the dog house I hope she at least found one of those nice looking “Sherpa Portable Soft-Sided Indoor Pet House” that they’ve been selling!

Definitely a nearby hotel.
A bed, despite not liking to use one myself.
@brennyn Recliner sleeper are ya?
@brennyn @therealjrn

Lately that’s been me! I can’t wait to get back to my comfy bed!
Several nice hotels nearby!
Queen sized beds in the two bedroom apartment we have for guests.
@Pony Nice! Your guests must really appreciate it.
@andyw They do. It’s nothing ritzy, but it’s comfortable. It’s part of the bottom half of our weird house, which used to be some kind of military barracks, then some crazy person had it moved up into the hills and remodeled it like woah.

Said like a good host.

A Murphy bed.
If it’s my FWB, who visits a few times a year, the other side of the bed.
Otherwise, I have a fully furnished guest bedroom.

@chienfou
You must get lots of company.
@Star2236
Rarely get past the 3 or 4th option. But it’s nice to know it’s available if we need it! SWMBO and I both loved to entertain/have company.
@chienfou Wow, you’re really prepared. Where did you say you live again? Asking for a friend
@chienfou Pool house!!!
@Kyeh
ok. More of a guest house… But in my defense, it IS next to the pool!
@chienfou I’ve seen the pictures you’ve posted in the past. It looks phenomenal!
@Kyeh
Thanks. It’s a fun space.

@Kyeh @therealjrn oh, a purple canopy that sounds amazing. I had a white canopy as a kid, but I would have loved to have had her set up.
Every girl needs a fancy canopy!

@therealjrn Oh, the answer to “For my guests, I have: … existential dread”,
@cfg83 Oh!
